No key to copy does not end the job

When every key is missing, a locksmith cannot simply trace an existing blade. The replacement has to be originated from the vehicle's lock information. Depending on the vehicle, that can mean decoding a lock or using an appropriate key code to establish the correct cuts. The method depends on the lock design, the information available and whether the locks still match the vehicle's original configuration.

For a vehicle with an immobilizer, a correctly cut blade is only part of the job. The replacement's transponder or smart key also needs the correct authorization to start the engine. We assess the mechanical and electronic requirements together. Tell us if a door lock, ignition or security-related module has been changed; that history can affect how a working key is created.

The first call should establish what is possible

Have your year, make and model ready, plus your location and any information about the missing key. Was it a plain blade, a key with remote buttons or a push-to-start fob? The VIN on the dashboard or registration helps identify the vehicle. If you cannot access it safely, say so. You do not need to search a dark parking lot or stand in traffic to read a number.

We handle all-keys-lost work for most makes and models, but support varies by vehicle and security system. Call with your year, make and model and we'll confirm before we come out. Be clear that no working key remains, because adding a spare and starting from zero are different jobs. That distinction helps us discuss the right procedure and an accurate flat-fee quote.

What happens when we reach the vehicle

We first establish that you are authorized to have a key made. Keep photo ID and the title or registration available. If the paperwork is locked in the car or the registered owner is elsewhere, explain that on the phone so we can discuss verification. A visible VIN is useful vehicle information, not a substitute for proof of ownership. We then inspect the vehicle and confirm the work.

Next comes gaining any necessary access, originating the key and programming it to the immobilizer where required. Smart key vehicles may need a different process than blade-key vehicles. We check starting and the relevant lock or remote functions before finishing. All-keys-lost work can take longer than making a spare because there is no working key to reference. Security procedures, lock condition and vehicle history all influence timing.

Keep the vehicle parked and bring the key service to it

ASAP Car Keys is the automotive-locksmith brand of ASAP Lockout & Locksmith Service. We bring mobile help to Springfield and the surrounding Ozarks within a 50-mile service radius. For supported key work, you do not need to tow the car to a dealer just because the original is gone. Tell us whether the vehicle is at home, at work or in a parking area with access restrictions.

We answer around the clock, and your call goes directly to the owner. Pricing is quoted up front over the phone with no hidden costs; once assessed, we stand by the quote. Call (417) 848-8163 or send the request-service form. After the immediate problem is solved, ask about a spare so a single misplaced key does not become another all-keys-lost situation.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us no key remains

Share your year, make, model and location. Mention any changed locks or replaced security modules.

  2. 2

    Verify ownership and inspect

We review your ID and ownership documents, confirm access and assess the vehicle's mechanical and electronic key requirements.

  3. 3

    Originate and authorize a key

We use the appropriate lock information to make the key, then program the supported transponder or smart key system as required.

  4. 4

    Test before you leave

We check starting and applicable lock and remote functions, then discuss an additional spare if you want one.

Lost All Car Keys FAQ

Common questions

Don't see your situation? Call (417) 848-8163 and describe it. If we can't help, we'll tell you who can.

Do you need my original key?

No. For supported vehicles, a key can be originated by decoding a lock or using suitable key-code information. Vehicles with an immobilizer also need compatible electronic programming.

Can you make a key from the VIN alone?

The VIN helps identify the vehicle and may assist with the appropriate key-code process. It is not a universal way to make every key, and it does not replace ownership verification. Changed locks can also mean the original key information no longer matches.

Will the missing key stop working?

Some systems allow missing electronic keys to be removed from the authorized list, but procedures vary. That does not necessarily stop a missing mechanical blade from turning a lock. Tell us if theft is a concern so we can discuss the relevant options.

Do I have to get the car to a dealership?

Not for the mobile all-keys-lost work we support. We come to the vehicle. Call (417) 848-8163 with the vehicle details so we can confirm support before arranging the visit.
